The Swedish Civil Aviation Authority reports that the number of air passengers here last year went up by 5 percent. The greatest increases were in the north, with 11 percent more air travellers from Kiruna, above the Arctic Circle, 9 percent more in Umeå, and 8 percent in Östersund.
Meanwhile, the Scandinavian Airlines System reports total passenger traffic in December was 15.5 percent higher than the same month in 2004. During the year gone by the total number of passengers was up 6.8 percent. But, SAS says, continued over-capacity, high fuel prices, and tough competition means that the outlook is uncertain.
Budget rival FlyMe reports that its passenger traffic rose by 14.1 percent in December.
