Wallström to Fight for Swedish Rules

European Commission Vice President Margot Wallström supports the demands of the Swedish labour movement and the Social Democratic party for changes in EU legislation so that trade unions can fight to improve the conditions of foreign workers.

In an interview with Swedish Radio News, the Swedish EU commissioner says that she has worked hard to raise the unions’ demands, even though the Commission has resisted the issue. The European Court of Justice recently upheld the right of EU companies from outside Sweden carrying out projects here without paying wages guaranteed under Swedish collective bargaining agreements.
